Cannabidiol (CBD), a phytocannabinoid, was discovered for the first time in 1940. It is one of 113 cannabinoids discovered in cannabis plants, along with tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and forms up to 40% of the plant's extract. Clinical research on CBD has included studies pertaining to studies relevant to anxiety, cognition, movement problems, and pain, despite the fact that as of 2019, there is inadequate high-quality evidence to support the effectiveness of CBD for these ailments. But CBD, a popular herbal nutritional supplement, has been aggressively pushed with unproven claims of specific therapeutic advantages.
The global Cannabidiol Market size was estimated to be valued at US$ 3665.5 Million in 2021, and is expected to witness a CAGR of 47.3% over the forecast period (2021-2028). Oral ingestion of cannabidiol through the mouth, aerosol spraying into the cheek, or inhaling cannabis smoke or vapour are all acceptable ways to consume the substance. Capsules, dried cannabis, hemp extract oil with a high CBD content, or a prescription liquid solution can all be used to administer it. Terpenes and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are not permitted in CBD oil. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD), two cannabinoids that are naturally present in the resin of the marijuana plant, interact with the cannabinoid receptors that are found all over the body. There are several additional cannabinoids present in medicinal cannabis that have been identified to date, including cannabinol (CBN), cannabigerol (CBG), cannabidivarin (CBDV), and tetrahydrocannabivarin, despite the fact that THC and CBD have garnered the greatest attention in studies (THCV). Despite being used medicinally, THC and CBD have differing physiological effects and receptor activities. Except when provided in their active form (such as through synthetic forms of THC like Dronabinol or Nabilone). The only CBD product currently approved by the Food and Drug Administration is the prescription oil Epidiolex. It is approved to treat two distinct epilepsy forms. With the exception of Epidiolex, state laws on the usage of CBD differ. Although CBD is used to treat a number of ailments, including Parkinson's disease, schizophrenia, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and anxiety, there is currently little proof of the drug's therapeutic benefits.
