A video event data recorder, or more precisely a motor vehicle event data recorder (MVEDR), is an apparatus installed in some cars to record information related to traffic collisions. It is similar to an accident data recorder (ADR), which is sometimes colloquially referred to as an automotive black box (by analogy with the common nickname for flight recorders).
